Classes end Thursday, and I could not be more excited! While I love my lab course, I do not particularly care for my other class, but it all ends Thursday! With the slight breeze yesterday I could not help myself but do some textbook reading outside. I also did a little bit of tidying up in the pantry.

Movin' on Out!

I am movin' on out today! Actually, I am moving out over the course of a few weeks along with a super nice girl I went to high school with and her boyfriend. We have found a place to call home! After graduating high school I have lived with my grandma for the past couple years, but felt it was time for me to give myself the boot! It has been wonderful living with my grandma, but I think it is time for a new chapter in my life. I am excited to get fully settled in!

Six Months

My best friend, Alex, has been gone for a year and a half now! Wow! As of this week he has got just six months left! He is serving a mission in the D.C. South area, which is actually in Virginia. He is an awesome person, and while I am so glad he's out there, I cannot wait until I get to see him again!

I believe summer is finally here! I looked out my back window and was amazed at how pretty all the flowers look. I had not even noticed them...Probably because it was so cold until just the past few days.

Summer Swimming

I just got this bathing suit. At Walmart! Only $32! While I would love to own a fancy vintage inspired suit, my paycheck would not. I have been eying this little number for about a month now and finally got it. Now bring on the water! They also have it on their website here or in different colors here. I really like the red one, but they did not have it and I did not feel like trying to get it from online.

When a Wet Set Fails

I have class early on Friday mornings. By early, I mean eight a.m. After work on Thursday night I took a shower, let my hair dry a little, and put in some rollers at about 10 p.m. Seven rolls around the next morning and I undo my hair to find it still wet and all fallen down. Sometimes the curls can be saved, but not this time. So I found some French twist tutorials and my hair was kind of saved! Hooray!!!! For a first attempt I was pleased, mostly because I have tried doing this before but it has never worked out at all!

Becoming an old lady

Age is just a number, but I feel as though I am now becoming a grown-up. But really, age doesn't really bother me as long as I'm enjoying life!

The real story here is about one of my best friends. You know when you feel like no one really gives a hoot about you except your family? Well, that was me. I know it's not true, but anywho the extent of my Birthday plans were to cut out a pattern. Then, while I was at work someone came walking in the door! It was Skyler, who came all the way from Utah to see me! If that doesn't make a person feel special, I don't know what would! We had a wonderful weekend and I am so glad he showed up! Unfortunately no pictures were taken....But here's an old one instead.

New Specs

I've worn glasses since I was seven. In eighth grade I started wearing contacts, which I still wear most of the time. I just went for my yearly eye exam and decided I wanted to get some new glasses. I got the frames from Vintage Eyeglasses Onlineand then got my prescription lenses put in. I picked them up this morning and am still getting used to the difference between contacts and glasses, but so far I really like them!

P.S. I am not Miss Photogenic!

Sunday Dress Up

One reason I enjoy Sundays is I get to dress up. I'll wear skirts and such through the week, but Sunday is a day for me to try to put together outfits to wear at church. I really like this skirt, though I need a lining because it is constantly going between my legs. That's all I guess!

New Kicks

Today I got myself some new kicks. While I love wearing pretty shoes that complement my outfits, sometimes you just have to wear a good pair of tennies. I just started taking classes at the university and, because I have no night classes, refuse to pay $100+ to park on campus. Instead I am parking in a nearby casino's parking garage and walking. I believe it is about a mile to get to class and a mile back. (This is just my estimate. It takes fifteen minutes to walk to class and I'm not a slow walker...) Unfortunately, my current shoe selection was just not cutting it. My feet were not feeling so hot after the first few days, so today I bought a pair of tennis shoes! I've been wanting some of the Reebok Easytone shoes, and had my eye on a black and purple pair that are actually some of the Runtone shoes. At the shoe store today the exact pair I wanted was on sale for thirty bucks off! I snatched up the last pair they had in my size-I had heard that they run small, but the 7.5 fit perfectly, and that's the size I normally wear. I wore them to work today and my feet don't feel any worse than before work. I'm hoping that they also live up to their claim that they help tone the muscles a little. I could sure use that! So here's to my not-so-cute shoes that will make my feet oh so happy! (hopefully)

Separation

I am now separating my blogging interests. I want to do everything on one blog (though that has turned into doing nothing!) and one blog is just not enough. It has turned into a smorgasbord of stuff all on one, so now my crafting blog is separate from my personal blog. My crafty blog is called "Sydnee's Blog of Crafty Concoctions" and can be found here. Circle Skirts

I have recently finished up two circle skirts and can say that I am very happy with the results of both of them. I've got the fabric for a third skirt, but that one will be my next project. The first skirt turned out just slightly small, so instead of using a 5/8" seam allowance, on the second skirt I just went to the edge of the pressure foot and this one turned out too big! The two fabrics seemed relatively similar, but maybe there was something in the fabric that caused the size differences. I don't know, but with a belt it was fine.

Payday for me usually means buying at least one item that I really don't need. That money is just burning a hole in my pocket! Today my buying adventures consisted of some vintage sewing patterns. They were my size and so stinkin' cute! I just had to get them....I purchased them from Wearing History on Etsy. Now I can't wait to get them in the mail! Hopefully once this semester gets over I will have some time to tackle at least one of these patterns! I'm really in love with the sundress with the detachable collar.

To date, this is my favorite piece I have knit. I love this thing. It fits great, which is more than my last attempt at a top can say. It has taken me a while to say anything about it, mainly because I wanted to have a picture with the buttons also, but that will just have to wait. I followed the pattern for this sweater in the Holiday 2009 Vogue Knitting magazine.

Moovin' and Groovin'

I HATE exercising. I mean, I really hate physical activity. I dread the thought of it and make as many excuses as I can in order to get out of it...But, sadly, I am a woman who is getting older. I may have avoided the "freshman fifteen," but I am not as thin as I was a year ago. So what did I do? I signed my butt up for a gym! A few years ago I did a P.E. credit at the gym (see, I even avoided doing real P.E.! Though I did get more out of the gym than a P.E. class) and had to take classes and I learned that I actually semi-enjoy pilates, yoga, and spinning. But once my P.E. credit was done I never entered the gym again!

That is until I signed up again just a few weeks ago...

So far I have just taken some yoga and pilates classes. I think I may be able to grow to not hate it. We'll see.

So why do I like these classes? Because I really don't like the more relaxed atmosphere in them. The room has dimmed lights. You are in your own little space and the teacher is not yelling at you to push it even more. I mean, they push you, but not like in your face yelling kind of way. I know some people do not like this kind of atmostphere, but I do. I guess to each his-or her-own.

So if you dislike exercising as much as I do maybe think about trying something different. Or just something....

I have been feeling like a little socialite lately. It is times like these that I am so greatful for all the wonderful friends that I have!

I went to see American Graffiti at the drive-in last Thursday. Here are Pheenix and I waiting for it to get dark.

And Skyler was in town for the weekend. We went and walked around downtown Saturday. Yes...That is a sani-hut in the back....

Utah

I had never been to Utah before. Yes, that is correct. A Mormon who lives in Nevada that has never been to Utah! Well, that has all changed now! I was able to go see Skyler get back from serving a two year mission! Woohoo!

Day 1: Malcolm and I left in the morning and drove...and drove...and drove...until we got to Salt Lake City! Seeing as I had never been to Utah, we just had to go see Temple Square. Everything was so pretty there! This picture was taken from the top of the conference center.

Day 2: Skyler got back!!!!! We spent the day with Skyler and his family and they were nice enough to even let us crash at their place. Thank you! Turns out Utah is actually really pretty!

Day 3: We went back to Reno....And even passed Beverly Hills. Haha.

It's Been Two Years Already

Two years since what, you ask? Since Skyler left, of course! My good friend Skyler left to go on a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints for the past two years. He is in the Nashville Tennessee Mission and will be getting home on August 2. I am so proud of him and can't wait to see him again! Here are some old pictures that I found of him.

This has been a work in progress for quite some time! The hardest part was the lining! Man, that was such a pain to figure out, but the purse turned out so cute it was totally worth it. I knit the outside and sewed it and the lining together.

I recently started a sewing class, and while I love my mom's machine I really wanted to have a nice sewing machine for myself. So, alas, I bought one! So far I absolutely love it!

On a different note I dyed my hair again. This time with permanent dye! I love the color and I hope it doesn't fade too fast....And isn't this hair clip cute?!?!?! Got it on here.

I just got these shorts on Ebay, and sadly they are a little tight, so I won't be wearing them much. The pictures were done by my little brother. He just loves taking pictures. Ha!

Cherry Mash

There's this candy called Cherry Mash. It is not sold here, but I have had it a few times growing up and I love it. The place where it is made is in St. Joseph, Missouri, which is where my grandparents used to live, which is why we get to snack on it every once in a long while. I've decided to virtually bike there to get some. I got this idea from Jamee. I tried it once before, but did not get very far...About twenty miles...So this time i decided to be motivated by food, and one that I love. It's 1,542 miles! Hopefully I stick to it!

She has the best hair tutorials! I love, love, love them! I even will admit to ordering some
Julie Hewett lipstick in Sin Noir after her review of it. If you want to try some vintage hair then she is the one to watch.

I used this tutorial to do my hair on Sunday. Really, it was pretty simple. I just used a curling iron to do the victory roll.(Thanks Brooke!)

My other favorite is Fleur de Guerre. Check her blog out and I think you'll agree. I love to just look at her pictures, but her blog posts are also very interesting.

Oregon...Some other day

I went to Oregon last week. I'm planning on blogging about it, but I just don't feel like editing all the pictures and uploading them and everything, so that is just going to have to wait a little while.

Here's my cardigan that I am knitting. I have to have it done in the next few days. I love it so far, but I messed up one row and am now working on frogging it out, which is taking forever!!! But it is so pretty and in the end I'll be glad that I spent the time fixing it.

Frenchy Gloves and a few more tidbits.

I have finally completed the gloves for Alex (AKA Frenchy and Elder Franzwa). I started them in November. I used a glove pattern generator and it was a little confusing to follow mostly because I added the fair isle stuff to it. I used The Harmony Guide to Aran and Fair Isle Knitting, a book that I absolutely love! I did the "FRENCHY" chart in my psychology class last semester. I had a whole page in my notes notebook from that class that I had turned into a bunch of little graph paper charts. Overall I had a lot of fun making these, but am very happy to be all done with them!

This year something that I really wanted to do was to make something once a month to donate. Sadly, I have not done anything for January of February, and even this month I can't really take credit for what I made because my mom actually ended up doing it all, but it's a start at least! The blanket is being used to make a newborn kit for the LDS Humanitarian Services

I love Silk Chocolate Soymilk. I could drink a whole half-gallon a day if I let myself. Today I have had probably four glasses of it. And though they are pretty small glasses, that is still a lot! It is so good, better than regular chocolate milk. I think so anyway. So here's to chocolate soymilk! Yum!

A Little Update.

It feels like I've been a study-a-holic lately, yet I don't feel any smarter! Argh! This was me the other day. Listening to my "Enya" station on Pandora and doing, well chemistry is in the picture, but it was a mix of chemistry and biology. So much fun! Ha!

On little happier, more fun note, I made some more hair flowers. I love these ones. I edge them in Stickles(my mom has a ton of colors to choose from) Then I added the pretty jewel in the middle. With the nice weather we had last week I couldn't help feeling a little springy.

Snow!!! What?!?! I thought spring was starting! Oh well, it's pretty....But I was liking the 60 degree weather.

And now...Back to that biology....

Valentine's Day

It is Valentine's day yet again. I thought it would be a great time to talk about my valentine, even though he is some 2000-something miles away. I feel that even though we haven't seen one another for almost 70 days, it doesn't seem to have been that long. I suppose this blog will be mostly about the cute things he has done.

This is one of my favorite things, though I would probably say that about everything. One day I went out to my car and found this on the windshield. I thought it was adorable, but then realized there were real bees on it! I loved it even more then. And of course I was his October Valentine.

I got this in the mail a few weeks ago. It was such a happy surprise, I love it. That song, Knock Three Times, that is what this is from. The part that says with a string attached to my heart. Not quite sure what I'm talking about I have the song in the playlist on the side. Before he left this was one of those songs that we listened to, seeing as he had only about 20 songs on his ipod and there were three versions of this one.

Here is just a little area in my room with a few things from him. That little boat is one of them. He was frustrated for a while trying to make it, but it turned out perfect. One night I had a bizarre dream that we went to New York in a little sailboat, and gave me this a little bit after that. Also, the two "cake toppers." Those were on the cake that the boys made for the Mormal. He left these on the day he left for the MTC. Mormal was out first official date, and the beginning of it all.

While I am sad to have him so far away, I am so glad he made the choice to go on a mission. He is an amazing person. Honest, loving, funny, caring, kind, genuine, and all around great.

Cards, Food, and Buttons

Last week I informed my mom that I needed to make cards, meaning I needed to go to the scrapbook store. She was very excited to hear that come out of my mouth. I am the daughter of the lady with the scrapin' mom license plate, yet I really do not enjoy scrapbooking. At all. But I was in need of some cards, so I decided to bite the bullet and make some. Turns out it was a lot of fun! And I don't think they turned out too shabby!

Now on to the food part. My grandma recently told me about this Mexican food restaurant that had great papusas. Because it is right on my way home from school, and even on the right side so I don't have to turn left out of there, I tried it out last week. My grandma also told me to try the yuca, which is cactus root, but they fry it like french fries. It is so good! I had a bean and cheese papusa and it was great too! Mmmmm! You should check it out. It is called Costa del Sol and it in Sun Valley. Today my mom, grandma and myself went. It was nice to have my grandma there, one because she is awesome, two because she speaks Spanish and could talk to them easier.

My grandma got menudo, I was tempted to try it, but didn't...She said it was good.

My mom had a torta with lengua in it. I didn't try it, I'll have to see if the leftovers are in the fridge still...

Buttons! I actually meant to talk about these a while ago, but just remembered today. I am knitting the Lady February Sweater, and so far I love it! I really wanted to get some great buttons for it, seeing as I will be putting in so much time. I didn't want to ruin it with ungly buttons! I was on Etsy, and I came across these amazing buttons. I love faries, and these are going to match perfectly! I love them so much! It came with three big buttons, perfect for my sweater, and three little buttons, which I will use for the baby February sweater.

Tales from the School

I am back in school. I'm glad, that means I'm getting closer to being done! This semester my classes are a bit more spread out than last semester, meaning I am spending more time at school doing homework. I am enjoying it so far, but this semester is definately harder than the last one! I snapped this picture in the library. I was trying to be sneaky with my phone. I was doing my math homework, then took a small break and did a little knitting.

Ravelympics Starts in 5 Days

I'm looking forward to participating in Ravelympics 2010! I've joined the Sexy Knitters Club team, and I am excited to get some projects done!

Because I didn't want to have projects that were supposed to be sent off for Christmas looming over me, I finally finished the tie for Elder Papenfuss. I had completed the knitting on it some time ago, it was just the lining that took me forever to get motivated to do. I'm also almost done with the gloves for Alex. I only have both thumbs, one pinkie, weaving in the ends, and blocking! I'm going to finish that before Friday.

For the Ravelympics I plan to participate in:

Snow Cross-I'm going to do a crochet edge on a baby blanket that I'm going to sew.
Hat Halfpipe-Just making a hat, or two
Free Dance-I'm going to do one square or the Great American Afghan

Those are the only ones I really have figured out, but I'm sure I'll do a little bit more.

Last Monday of Break

Today was the last Monday of my winter break. It has been very fun to have six weeks off, but *gasp* I think I am ready to go back to school. Today was the last Monday before going back to school. My dad has always had Mondays off from work, so it has been tradition to do something on the last Monday before we, meaning my brother sister and I, go back to school. My sister and brother all went back to school a few weeks ago, but today was Martin Luther King day, so we all got to be together! We went to Jazz, A Louisiana Kitchen for lunch. I had gone there once before and loved the food, and it was just as good this time!

I also got heard about this
cookie recipe on the Knit Misadventures podcast. The ingredients: peanut butter, sugar, and an egg. It is my new favorite cookie recipe! They taste great and are so easy. I got about 36 cookies out of it too! They are pretty small, but that is still three dozen.

Notorious Granny Square

Wow! It snowed about 6 inches last night! And it is cold outside, the Channel 8 website tells me it is 20*F. Brrrr! It is good stay at home and bake weather. Which is what I intend to do. School got cancelled, which has mixed feeling for me. It was my last day for two of my classes. :[ More study time I guess....

Today my family got all our decorations out and got our tree/indoor decorations up. We seem to have permanently lost our Christmas tree lights, so these are technically the ones we put outside, but still they look great! It was lots of fun to have the family getting stuff out and putting it on the tree!

My good frien Alex just left to go on a mission! He's going to the Washington D.C. South mission, and boy was he excited! He's such a wonderful person! I am going to miss him so much, but at least I know he is out there doing good! Here are a few pictures of us!

Today I went fishing with my pro fisher friend Alex. We caught absolutely nothing! I guess it was not a very happenin day, or the fish just weren't buying that our stuff was food.
Here I am looking toasty warm! I wore Three pairs of pants under the coveralls, yup I was very warm.

My goodness! I think I might just be not so good at keeping this thing updated! I'm hoping to get a camera soon, it is kind of hard having to share a camera with my parents. (Well, that's more of just an excuse really...) My plan is to see if I can get one on Black Friday, if there are any good deals that is. Ok, that's all for now.

Yet again I have not posted anything in a long time...

Just recently I finished an adorable little baby hat. It's called the Giacomo's Baby Hat. I don't have any pictures loaded up on here yet, but it turned out very cute. I changed the color scheme on it also, but I liked how it turned out. This was also my first time doing fair isle knitting, and I thought it was lots of fun! I am currently working on a second hat, which will look the same as the other. Woohoo!

On a different note, I found an energy bar recipe that I am going to try. It is on the yoga today blog.I'm going to go buy the ingredients today!

Twelve, or thirteen if we're counting kindergarten, hav finally come to and end. No more public schooling for me. It was a nice and short ceremony. We also had a fun party yesterday with lots of family and friends. Well, enjoy the pictures...

I, along with my mom, sister, and brother, are in Lincoln City, Oregon. We arrived on Tuesday evening and are heading out tomorrow morning-ish. Started out with the long drive up here. I even drove a little bit! How exciting!
We got here and it is very pretty and amazing. The view from our where we are staying is great, too, and I can hear the ocean!
We have done a lot of shopping, which has included lots of yarn, and spent some time relaxing. We came across a joke shop yesterday that had an 18 and over area. I could go in! Haha!

Today we went to Tillamook. They have an ice cream called Marionberry Pie. AMAZING! I loved it! Try some if you come up this way!
And while all of this has been great....The real reason I came is this....

Riding to Oregon!

I am getting me a stationary bike. I am beginning to feel extremely lazy and I enjoyed the spinning classes a lot, so I figured get a stationary bike! And some cool people I know have given me a great idea! (Yeah, I am totally copying you Sister Andelin :] ) I am going to ride to Lincoln City, Oregon. I am not actually riding there, but am virtually riding there. You get it? Hopefully so. The distance there is 572 miles. I am really going there, but driving, in a few weeks. Maybe I will take pictures at certain distances. Well, wish me luck!

Food and Knitting

This post is super old. About two months old! But since I had written it already I might as well post it.....

We, meaning Johnny and I, checked out downtown this past Monday. We went to a new place called the Pneumatic Diner. It was pretty great. I had a tofu sandwich. Yummy! Johnny got some lasagna, which was also good. That rootbeer was also fantastic!

Now for a new thing that I have come across. This group is awesome! It is called Socks for Soldiers, a group to knit socks and hats for soldiers in the Middle East. I am so excited to start being involved in this group.

I will start out with some knitting news. Hooray! I finally went to the SNB group here in Reno. It has only taken me months to finally go. It was lots of fun! It's a great knitting group! The second week I went Stacie and my mom came. Afterward Stacie was hungry and I just never turn down food, so that's where the picture came from.

This week my mom and I went to check out a store downtown, sadly it was closed, but we then walked past this cute little boutique and got the hat. It's a super cute store called Sasha's Boutique

RIP Xena Mighty Muffin Warrior Pig

This past Saturday we lost our furry friend Xena.

She had been breathing a little funny and Friday when I got home from school her eye had been sealed shut with boogies, that is when we started calling around to find a vet that would take in a guinea pig asap. We found one and rushed her in. After some hectic crazyness, I guess you have to be 18 to sign away a guinea pig for care, we got in to find out she had pneumonia! We got multiple antibiotics and whatnot to treat her with. Saturday rolled around and she wasn't looking good, and wasn't eating. Off I went to get Gas x and some mix to force feed her. With mom's help we administered her last meal, a yummy green goop. Shortly after she passed away. We will miss our very crazy little girl, but now she can roam free in the guinea pig pastures.....

It has been about ten months now, and I am still not done! I was not caring all that much until I just looked on Ravelry. A lady finished this vest in, like, a little over a month. Yeah, I am feeling lame now!!! My goal is Christmas, that is when I will force myself to get it done, hopefully, I might have a few late nights. (There is a picture of it so far, the back is done too)

Tonight my family went to the corn maze. It was lots of fun. I went a few weeks ago and spent an hour lost and frustrated trying to find my way out, which we never actually found the exit....Tonight my sister led us and found it in about five minutes!

For more news from the life of Sydnee, today my dad and I started my Pinewood Derby car. The inspiration was a Chevy Nova. I did quite a bit on it, broke the saw, then used the fancy sander, then fell asleep on the swing in our front yard. I woke up to my dad sanding more of it. I think it looks amazing!

Homecoming and Owls

Well, I got nominated for homecoming queen. Yeehah! Pretty exciting and also quite cold. Of course the weather decided to snow that day and it was just freezing. Anyway, I did not win, but it was still fun and David, my running mate, did win.

Yeah! That is right, I went to Billetproof in Antioch this weekend. Many thanks to Pheenix and her family! It was tons of fun. Yup. I can't even explain it, but it was awesome!

Virginia City

Last Saturday we, meaning my family and Tiffany, went to Virginia City. Our reason for the trip was to see the Civil War Reenactment. This was neat, we rode a train and were then ambushed by the Confederates, then rode back. After that my little brother got sick, but luckiky my dad was able to borrow a friend of our's truck and go home with him. Then we went to the ball. Which was lots of fun.

Today was the Nevada Make it With Wool competition, and like many things I decide to do I did not allow nearly enough time to make the outfit. I finished at 4:30 this morning and had to be at the State Fair at 8:30.

Overall, it was a very fun experience. I think it was more of my practice year and I think I will start my project for next year before this year even ends. Otherwise I might be pulling another all nighter. I got a ton of stuff just for being in it. That was super exciting.

Yet another friend has left to go on a mission. Yay! Now two of the old "group" are gone....temporarily. Thought I should have a little ode to the missionaries I know here.

Egg Cozy vs. Postcard

I just watched a really amazing video on the Etsy myspace page. It was for knitted postcards. Pretty cool, right? Then my mom walks in and I tell her and she compares it to an egg cozy! Egg cozies are stupid, while this postcard is great. (A side note, my mom thinks the egg cozy thing is "cute" and she knows I think they're really dumb.)

Just look at the pictures, they don't lie. I guess the little egg cozy is a bit cute, but the creepyness of it outweighs that.

Wow. June was the last time I posted? I feel lame. I guess the last month, probably the most exciting, will be somewhat forgotten on the interweb.

Recent news! I read Breaking Dawn. I will not make any comments on the book, just in case someone stumbles across this and does not want to know. :]

Also, for the knitting part, I am working on a pair of the Leaf Lace Socks from the Vogue sock knitting book, and the smock top from make it modern. I am suffering from SSS(Second Sock Syndrome and haven't even started the second one......) The top is going well, the cables are so much fun!

I will put up pictures later, I hope tomorrow, so that this is not a totally boring blog.

Today I got some Kool-Aid. Actually, about 17 packages of it. Anyways, it is all for dyeing some yarn! My mom and I are going to do that tonight. I am quite excited!!! There will most definately be lost of pictures and such of that!

Last night I watched this show called Britain's Worst Teeth. It was a very interesting show. Uhg. Made me want to take even better care of my teeth.....That show also gave me an excuse to work on a vest that I have been working on for about five months. (I say working on it. More like glaring at it and wishing it was a smaller project.) I acutely hate it. All it is is stockinette stich. It does not end! I need to just finish it, then it will be done and out of my subconsious mind.
